to dawn, RANS brought out the S-12S Super Airaile. Because common RANS model names tend to sound alike (S-6ES, S-6S, S-12XL, S-12S), I'll refer to the newest model as the Super Airaile. The Super Airaile follows a long line of development for the Hays, Kansas-based company. RANS introduced the S-12 as an open-cockpit. The Rans S-12XL Airaile was introduced in 1990. It is a high wing tri-cycle gear in a pusher configuration with the engine mounted upright. The Airaile features side by side seating, with dual controls.

Climb even with the 582 is only about 600 feet per minute, with a cruise of around 75 m.p.h. at 5800 R.P.M... The S-12XL Airaile went into production in March of 1990 and has enjoyed a progressive evolution. Improvements to cabin comfort, durability, and performance are the direct result of working with user input.. Typical of RANS aircraft, the Airaile only requires a two-car garage and common shop tools and skills to complete from start to finish.
