I tied the power to the backup light connector which means removing the tail light assembly (two screws and some insistent tugging). The brake lights are much brighter than the reverse lights, so there's no harm in getting better reverse lights and it won't compromise your ability to change cameras. After getting good reverse bulbs if you still think it's too grainy from excessive ISO boost then by all means experiment with cameras.
